A Quest for Truth in Dog Training
19 years in, and I still have more questions than answers—let’s figure it out together.
Why This, Why Now?
For 19 years, I’ve been deeply immersed in the world of dog training and behavior. I’ve trained countless dogs, worked with owners from all walks of life, and built a business around making dog ownership easier and more fulfilling.
But here’s the thing: the more I learn, the more I realize how much we still don’t know.
Dog training is full of strong opinions, conflicting advice, and tribalism. Some trainers swear by one method, while others claim it’s outdated or ineffective. Social media is flooded with oversimplified, feel-good dog training tips that rarely hold up in real-world situations. And somewhere in between, the actual truth gets lost.
I’m launching this Substack because I want to explore dog training with curiosity, not certainty. Instead of repeating the same industry talking points, I want to ask deeper questions—the ones people often avoid because the answers aren’t simple or easy.
What really works? What should work but doesn’t? What are the common problems in this industry?
If these questions intrigue you, you’re in the right place.
The Community We’re Building Here
This isn’t just a newsletter—it’s a space for people who want to think critically about dog training and dog ownership and aren’t afraid to question conventional wisdom.
I’m looking for readers who are:
🧐 Curious: Open to exploring different perspectives rather than just confirming what they already believe.
🐾 Committed to their dogs: Willing to adapt and improve for their dogs’ sake, even if it challenges their current views.
💡 Big-picture thinkers: Interested not just in how to train dogs, but why we’re doing what we’re doing.
Whether you're a dog owner, a professional trainer, or just fascinated by behavior and learning, I hope you’ll join me in this quest for truth.

What I’m currently experimenting with or reconsidering in my own training
